North Korea Launches Dozen Missiles Toward Japan Sea, S. Korea Says
The missiles lifted off from the Wonsan area, and analysts are still working to establish their flight distances and other specifications, a Seoul-based news agency reported, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The army said it has heightened surveillance and stays on alert for further launches. It said it is maintaining a robust defense posture through close intelligence-sharing with the US and Japan.
Earlier, Tokyo said Pyongyang fired “what may be a ballistic missile,” according to the Japanese Defense Ministry.
Japan’s Coast Guard warned vessels to monitor for updates and keep clear of any debris that may have fallen into the water, a Tokyo-based news agency reported.
The launch follows an Oct. 12 test in which North Korea fired multiple ballistic missiles from the Pyongyang area toward the East Sea.
